Our flaws are what makes us unique, beautiful and wonderfully human
Welcome to David Sheppard Counselling
I offer a compassionate counselling service in Leeds, and online throughout the UK. I'm available to work with anyone who may feel lost, confused, sad or anxious. Together we can create a place of safety to discuss your life, and any issues you are experiencing. Therapy can give you tools to navigate through life's up and downs and can help strengthen your sense of self. I believe that our perceptions of our own brokenness can be viewed differently. That our flaws are what makes us unique, beautiful and wonderfully human.
About me
My own experiences of struggling with my mental health brought me to therapy's door. Through therapy I was introduced to ideas and tools, most importantly, provided with a space of safety where I could simply be me; No more hiding. I started to explore and treasure my thoughts, feelings and behaviour, in a non-judgemental context. In short, it changed my life.
”I started to explore and treasure my thoughts, feelings and behaviour, in a non-judgemental context.”
This has remained my motivation in pursuing counselling, and why I also currently work in the mental health field. I believe we can all make positive change in our own lives, and learn to accept that which isn’t in our control (a fact made so relevant as we all cope with the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic).

Is Therapy For Me?
People seek counseling for many different reasons. Therapy can often be viewed as a last resort, or only appropriate for people suffering extreme trauma, or who are unbalanced and unstable. This mischaracterisation causes many of us to feel reluctant to reach out for help when life becomes increasingly difficult. Counseling can benefit all, no matter what stage of life’s journey you’re at; From uncertainty about the future, friction in relationships, to making hard decisions, the desire for self-improvement, struggling to be assertive, or simply to talk to someone outside of your social circles who will listen and not judge you.
My Therapeutic Approach
As a Person-centred therapist, I will help you navigate the issues that you come to counselling with, by helping you become more self aware through exploring your feelings, behaviour, beliefs, worldview and obstacles in your life. This form of counselling is primarily client led because you are the expert in your own life experience.
