How my inner child feels, matters. You might struggle to hear its voice, but it’s there.
Children’s mental health awareness week has had me reflecting on what I wish I knew about mental health. We might experience things and assume that time has dealt with the struggles and feelings I experienced when we were young.
Everyone has had expectations of people and plans that turned out differently, sometimes painfully so.
If I spoke to my younger self I would say:
You are capable of so much more than you think you are
Your individuality is what people will love most about you
Your life is so valuable, even if you don’t feel valued/valuable right now
You can choose your purpose, regardless of other’s expectations
If you’re struggling there are people who will listen to you and not judge you, even if they aren’t in your immediate social circles
Give children the tools to be open, help them feel safe and heard. That goes for your inner child too.
